WASHINGTON — Following a smooth and secure Election Day across the country, Fair Elections Center commended local election officials and poll workers for executing standard contingency plans and safeguarding ballot access for millions of voters.
“Yesterday, we had a successful free and fair election in this country, something we do not and cannot take for granted. The resilience of our elections deserves more attention. Because of the hard and diligent work of thousands of poll workers and local election officials, in addition to voting rights advocates and community organizations supporting voters, millions of people were able to safely cast their ballots without incident or interference, and while we remain vigilant as we wait for the ballots to be completely counted and certified, we are confident every voter’s voice will be heard,” said Rebekah Caruthers, President and CEO of Fair Elections Center.
“Today we can all celebrate the fact that we still have a functioning democracy in this country. The voters have had their say. Despite a season of multiple threats and attacks on our voting rights, voters were determined to turn out and participate, and they did so in record numbers— with double-digit increases in early voting turnout rates among Black, Latine, and youth voters. People are excited to make their voices heard, and I think the message is getting through: voting is the way we exercise our power, shape our communities, and do our part to help America live up to its ideals.”
